Passaiyoor, proverbially known as the land of the brave, is a coastal village located 1.6 kilometers southwest of the Jaffna City center.

This reasonably wealthy little village is recorded as Passur in various historical counts of Jaffna. The Passurians; during the time of, Frenchman and the second Bishop of Jaffna (1893-1918), Rev. Dr. Henry Joulain, have been noted proverbially as the "Brave Passurians"{ A Dip into the past - Page 67}.

011Passaiyoor, proverbially known as the land of the brave, is a coastal village located 1.6 kilometers southwest of the Jaffna City center. This reasonably wealthy little village is recorded as Passur in various historical counts of Jaffna. The Passurians; during the time of, Frenchman and the second Bishop of Jaffna (1893-1918), Rev. Dr. Henry Joulain, have been noted proverbially as the "Brave Passurians"{ A Dip into the past - Page 67}. 

This fully catholic village, is also the home of the very highly worshiped, Jaffna St.Anthony's Church. The current Majestic structure of this church was fully completed in 1911 under Rev.Fr.Deslandes.

It is of noteworthy that the St.Anthony's Church Passaiyoor attracts more than a hundred thousand faithful from all parts of Jaffna for its annual feast which falls on the 13th day of June.

Although fishing has been the main source of income for the folk of this village, since the pre independence days, Passurians have given the highest place to education and made sure their children were sent to best of colleges and convents in Jaffna.

This mentality of the Passurians, to my knowledge and count, has produced a little more or less than 15 teachers and the first woman government servant in the Staff officer rank,who were born between the pre independence years of 1922 and 1947.

By continuing this tradition to-date, the Passurians, have produced Academics, Clergymen and women, Teachers, Medical Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Proffessors, Politicians, Sportsmen and so on. This page will be expanded further with authentic information as I receive them.
