Passaiyoor- The Biginnings
Beginnings of Passur or any other village or even a country for that matter, stems from the historical accounts put into context by individuals known as historians. In today’s complex world, that analyses and questions anything and everything, it will be much helpful to the reader if he/she can fully understand who are historians and how and with what types of sources, they do a tremendous service to humanity in bringing out the true history of people.
Passaiyoor- The Land of the Brave
Passaiyoor, proverbially known as the land of the brave, is a coastal village located 1.6 kilometers southwest of the Jaffna City center.
This reasonably wealthy little village is recorded as Passur in various historical counts of Jaffna. The Passurians; during the time of, Frenchman and the second Bishop of Jaffna (1893-1918), Rev. Dr. Henry Joulain, have been noted proverbially as the "Brave Passurians"{ A Dip into the past - Page 67}.
